Fyodor Dostoyevsky: Love Life More Than The Meaning of It
Life is its own meaning
For many of us, pursuing meaning and purpose in life can be all-consuming. We seek answers to the big questions.
Why are we here? What is our purpose? But what if the key to a fulfilling life is not in finding the meaning of it but in loving it?
Dostoyevsky was a renowned novelist, short story writer, essayist, and journalist. He was known for his existentialist views that explore the complexities of human nature and the meaning of life.
In his works, Dostoyevsky delves into the depths of human emotion and psychology, leaving readers with profound insights into the human experience. One of his most intriguing views is on loving life more than the meaning of it.
“I think everyone must love life more than anything else in the world.’ ‘Love life more than the meaning of it?’’Yes, certainly. Love it regardless of logic, as you say. Yes, most certainly regardless of logic, for only then will I grasp its meaning,”he said.
He suggests the love of life itself should come before the search for meaning. According to him, it is more important to appreciate the beauty and wonder of existence than to search for some deeper meaning or purpose constantly.
