Joseph Campbell on The Goal of Life
Life is a test of two things
Nature is beautiful; it is ever-changing, but it doesn’t hurry. It’s effortless. Many natural transformations take time, but they all add up to create amazing scenes every year. “Nature does not hurry, yet everything is accomplished,” Lao Tzu said.
Life can be simple and effortless, but we insist on making it complex and stressful. We have become so disconnected from nature that we no longer know how to go back to basics.
The modern world has taken away the deep meaning of life. “We’re so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about,” says Joseph Campbell.
It’s said that nature is the best teacher. If we want to learn about life and be happy, we must get in touch with ourselves.
To do so, we need to study our own natures. By understanding our strengths and weaknesses, it becomes easier to live meaningful lives, accept or overcome challenges and live a balanced life.
Joseph Campbell was a polyglot ( a person who knows and is able to use several languages) with interests spanning from mythology and religion to philosophy and psychology.
