The myth of the unchanging nature of human existence is just that: a myth. People no longer live in small villages as their ancestors did, but in cities accompanied by technology and surrounded by modernisation.

This fact has led to changes in how we understand life and what it means to be human. The ancient Greeks believed that the universe we see around us is just a tiny part of an infinite, never-ending world.

Many centuries ago, humans had a rather simple understanding of the world. Life was presented as an endless cycle consisting of three natural stages.

The first was childhood, which followed from birth and ended with death. The second stage was adulthood, which followed from marriage and ended with old age. The final stage in this cycle was old age, which followed from old age and ended with death. You are probably thinking, what was the fun in that?

The goal of most people at that time was simply to survive another day to see tomorrow’s sunrise, so they didn’t care much about anything else (the next phone upgrade) or any further secondary purpose or meaning to their lives.
