Reality is Grey: Life is Far More Complex Than Rigid Conclusions

Choose curiosity over certainty

Children are great explorers — their views are not fixed. They are curious and highly motivated to learn new things.

Everything changes as they get older. They begin to think like everyone else and define things, ideas and people as good or bad, right or wrong, rich or poor and black or white.

Complex ideas and concepts are reduced to binary options. This creates a false dilemma, also called binary thinking. But the world is far more complicated than oversimplification.

Why do we fall out of questioning and exploration?

Why has society reduced everything to binary thinking? We are forced to stop thinking and fall in line or respect systems and institutions without making allowance for improvement.

“The status quo is a super magnet. People are biased against the way things could be and find comfort in the way things are,” writes Ozan Varol in his book, Think Like a Rocket Scientist.

But the people helping (who helped) the world evolve into a more advanced giant system maintain their curiosity. They think beyond the status quo. They don’t oversimplify ideas and concepts or stop thinking.
