The Key to An Extraordinary Life, According to Plato
Make rational thinking a way of life
How can you live your best life? There is no shortage of information on how to design a great life. A lot of them focus on building better habits.
Plato thought creating an extraordinary life can be achieved by improving our reasoning, i.e. thinking harder about our assumptions, beliefs and perceptions about the world. The path to exceptional living starts with rational thinking.
Plato was a philosopher. He is considered one of the most influential Greek philosophers. He studied painting and wrote poetry before he became a philosopher. Socrates was his mentor.
He believed a continuous dialogue and questioning of our mindset about growth, success and excellence is the key to creating lasting success.
“Excellence” is not a gift, but a skill that takes practice. We do not act “rightly” because we are “excellent”, in fact we achieve “excellence” by acting “rightly”.” Plato said.
“Thinkers like Plato, Aristotle, Immanuel Kant, and Friedrich Nietzsche once made the question of the good life central to their philosophy,” writes Open Culture.
