Time Is Ruthless. Don’t Postpone Meaningful Life

“Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away.” — Marcus Aurelius
Time is an elusive concept that has puzzled philosophers for centuries. It’s an essential aspect of our experience of the world, allowing us to measure the duration of events and coherently order our lives.
But it’s also a source of anxiety and fear, as it seems to be constantly slipping away from us, never to return.
Despite its importance, its often viewed as a ruthless force constantly working against us. This perception is rooted in the fact that time is fleeting, and once it passes, it can never be regained.
Life is indeed shorter than our perception of it.
When we confront our mortality, we are forced to confront the fact that we will not always be here.
This can be a difficult realisation, but it can also be liberating.
It allows us to let go of the trivial things that often occupy our time and focus on what truly matters.
When we acknowledge the fleeting nature of time, we begin to understand the importance of intentional living.
“It is only when we become aware that our time is limited that we can channel our energy into truly living,” says pianist and composer Ludovico Einaudi.
Time forces us to confront the impermanence and unpredictability of life, which can be uncomfortable and even painful at times.
However, it is through these experiences of challenge and loss that we can learn, grow, and transform.
While time can be a source of comfort and familiarity, it can also be ruthless in its demands on us.
Time is unforgiving and unyielding, and it does not wait for anyone.
On the other hand, time can also be a source of anxiety and fear, as it seems to be constantly slipping away from us, never to return.
