To Retain Book Knowledge For Life, Apply What You Read Immediately
It’s the application of knowledge that changes life.
What are your current pains and struggles in life or career? What is the one thing you wish you could overcome right now?
Reading is insanely essential for designing a better life. Apart from reading to improve what I know, upgrade my assumptions about the world or accumulate new knowledge about how things work, I read to solve my present problems and struggles.
Bill Gates explains the importance of reading beautifully, “You don’t really start getting old until you stop learning. Every book teaches me something new or helps me see things differently…Reading fuels a sense of curiosity about the world, which I think helped drive me forward in my career.”
Many people know the value of reading, but they often struggle to retain 90% of what they read, especially if the process is hurried. When you fail to recall ideas in great books, it often feels like you wasted time and energy.
Since I fully embraced lifelong learning, I’ve experimented with different methods to retain more knowledge for life.
The one approach that has not failed me is the “reading to apply” method — reading for answers to specific problems.
